Memory #1!

For my family history class I had to make some goals to try and achieve by the end of the semester that has to do with getting our family history started. My New Testament Professor told us that if we would just write done one memory that we have every single Sunday that in a year we would have 40 plus memories that we might not have written down before and that’s a start to your own family history. So- I have decided to do that. Especially because I was not that great at keeping a journal throughout my life and I have some fun memories that I know I’m going to forget sooner or later.

So here it goes- memory number one.

My senior year we had the craziest Sadie’s ever! We love telling the story because everything that could have gone wrong, did. I was in a group with me, Ashley, Kailey, Jackie, Christina, her friend Dana. I have to tell you, this was one the thee most fun dates/dances that I have ever been too. We were planning on painting black shirts with neon paint and all having a sports number on the back and a name of one of the seven dwarfs. We thought we were super clever because it was a costume dance and we wanted it to be cheep and kind of have a theme. So we met at a park to do the shirts. We were already running late because we picked up our dates and it took a little too long. It was raining.  Of course. Luckily there was a cover so we went under there. We got pain everywhere. You can still see it all there today. We were splattering paint on the shirts and throwing paintbrushes. We hadn’t really thought of how we were going to get these shirts to a place they could dry. So we piled in our cars, in the rain with wet shirts. Everyone had to be super careful not to get the permanent paint on the cars (let’s just say Kailey still has remnants of this day all over her car). We got to my house finally and hung them in the garage to dry while we finished our day date (bad idea you’ll learn later). It was getting super late and we were debating on still going to the zoo or not. We decided to since that’s what we had planned. We got lost on the way there. We went off the wrong exit, almost hit a car twice, got off the wrong exit again, took the wrong turn off the right exit finally and then got lost in a neighborhood…
We finally made it to the zoo! It was still raining so no one was even there! That was actually pretty great. We still got to see all the animals and not a single person was in sight. We had the whole place to ourselves. Avery mad this really big gorilla mad and we all almost die (really though, it was pretty terrifying. He like put his fits against his chest and ran up and down his cage and then banged so hard on the glass! It was so freaky. Another gorilla ate it’s own poop. That was entertaining. Let’s just say we spend the bulk of our time with those guys. After we were done at the zoo we headed home and it was already getting dark. But guess what? Kailey’s car broke down. We still blame Andrew to this day because he was the one driving. We had her car with 4 people and then Christina’s suburban with 8 people. Because we needed to get back and we couldn’t fix the car all 12 of us pilled in the suburban! Oh. And we even pushed the car into a parking spot because it wouldn’t start (this was all in SLC ps). So as we illegally drive home we all are laughing and rocking out to music while there are like 3 people in the trunk. Oh man. That was just hilarious and great. I think we did pray before we left to keep us safe though. Oh! Another cool thing. The car ended up breaking down right in front of east high. We sang high school musical songs while the men were looking at the car. In the rain.
We finally made it home. We were planning on roasting hot dogs and stuff in my back yard. We still did even though it was pitch black. My awesome mom made the fire for us so we wouldn’t have to. She is a genius because it had been raining all day. I dunno how she got it started.  We had a really fun time around the fire laughing and eating food.
Because we put our shirts in the cold damp garage they didn’t dry. They were still completely wet! So we put on our funny hats and went to the dance! The dance wasn’t super fun, but we mad the best of it! I can’t remember what exactly happened after that, but we sure had a good time and are still talking about it today! So apparently it was memorable.

Dear Future Jacket...

I really like this whole jacket thing. Even tonight at FHE we talked about what characteristics we would want in our future jacket.
(let me get those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about caught up. Elder Oaks gave a talk in regional stake conference and used a hilarious analogy comparing boyfriends/girlfriends/spouses to jackets. It was hilarious, and totally true. He talked about how you are in this club and everyone seems to have a jacket and you don't and you can't just seem to find one. Everyone is talking about how nice their jacket is and just all about the jacket and you have no clue where yours is.) I do not have a jacket, so I thought that I'd write a funny letter to my future one... (coming up with an analogy for a jacket and person is not that easy).

So here is my incredibly cheesy letter to my future jacket :)

Dear Future Jacket,
Let's start with the basics. You will need to always keep me extremely warm. I don't want you to think it's only temporary. I will need you 24/7 (even in the summer) I don't care if I'm scourging hot, I would still like you to keep me as warm as possible. I would love you to be warm and fuzzy, even if you are afraid to show it. ;) A good jacket should keep you safe. A good jacket needs to have essentials in the pockets. A good jacket just knows when you are cold and knows exactly how to warm you right up. I don't want a lazy, torn, used, or smelly jacket. But remember- you can be washed. I want a jacket who knows what it needs to do and how to do it. Jackets must know where they were made and know how to get back. Ya, sometimes there are holes in jackets, but together, we can mend them. Sometimes my friends or family might not like you- but just know, I have a special place for you in my closet :) You need to be really soft so I can snuggle reallllll good. Keeping my hands warm is a must. You don't need to be fancy, expensive, or even a certain style. All I ask is that you fit just right. If you do all of these things I will keep you forever and never ever throw you away. :)

<3 me :)

Unagi

There is this awesome episode of friends where Ross teaches Rachel and Phoebe about Unagi which is some kind of fighting thing. But I think the word goes perfectly with the state that I'm in in my life right now. It doesn't have to do with fighting or anything, but I just feel like Ungai should be the word for it.  Which is... I guess peaceful and happy, maybe content.
Unagi
It's a great place to be in. I sort of feel like a super hero, or like I'm stuck in the amazingly happy ending  of a movie. It's wonderful. I encourage everyone to get into this stage and stay in it as long as you can. Because it so exists. The only problem... I don't know exactly how I got to unagi... ok maybe I do.
Prayer.
That is literally how I got here. I would pray fervently to my Heavenly Father for the strength to carry through and to just be happy with the way my life was going, even if it wasn't going exactly how I planned. Well, it worked. Just like it always does.
Ungai.
Ahhhh. I just feel like I always have a fresh mint in my body (odd way to put it... but that is how I feel).
I. Feel. Awesome.
I. Love. My. Life. :)
Ungai.

Weirdest Zac Effron Dream Ever...

This dream is probably the weirdest one I have had. I just couldn't help but write it down...
So I was at this play, I think it was a high school play. A bunch of drama kids from high school were there including Christina and Amanda. They were practicing, but for some reason they didn't have a piano player, so I started just playing for them while they were practicing for the play. Then the crazy drama lady like the director or something told me I should play for the play. So, I did.
But while we were practicing right before the play was supposed to start we had this idea that for one of the scenes we would do our hair super crazy. We REALLY REALLY wanted to do it, but the director wouldn't have it. I got so mad for some dumb reason that she wouldn't let us do our hair all crazy, so I left and told her I wouldn't play the piano (this was right before the play was supposed to start). I gathered all my things (which for some reason, was all my laundry) and left. But before I left, as I was picking up my stuff, I looked out the window to the stage (don't ask me why there was one) but then I saw Zac Effron all dressed up.... like on the stage.... at a High School play. I thought it was weird. So then I tried calling my mom to come and pick me up. I couldn't get a hold of her so I just drove home (I know, it makes no sense... but it's a dream so....).
As I was driving home I was feeling stupid about not talking to Zac Effron when I had the choice. So I went back and then all of the sudden we were in his huge nice motor home...
So me and someone else... I think it was Christina... we were talking to him, I was totally flirting, and like cuddling with him and he was doing the same back...... it was so weird.... but awesome of course. Then I decided since we were parked right next to Zach's house (Wilson) we would talk to Austin (I don't get it either). So we reached over from the window and Zac Effron called out Austin! Austin! Austin and Jake came over. They were so surprised. So then we all hung out together for a while talking. Zac lived alone in the motor home going around to all kinds of shows. He kept talking about how he was going to get paid for the show he was just in at around 10:00 that night. I was wondering why he was worried about it because he was rich. He said he didn't like it cuz he got bored at lot. He had seen ever since movie ever made... odd. I looked into his room and he had the LDS movies all stacked up on this shelf....
Then we decided to invite him to Andrew's house. His family loved him, but he was bombarded by so many people and we all started acting like crazy people around him. We even started calling him Troy at one point because he was looking down and not answering to Zac. We thought it was the funniest thing ever. But we made him super uncomfortable will all the people. Plus, we were playing this weird video game where Bowser was on this balloon bike riding on top of a rope...
I think that was it... super weird dream!

Here's a look at what I saw... (yes, he is in my top 5. I sure hope this is not what my roommate heard me talking about when I was sleep talking... crap...

Elder Holland & My Testimony

Man I just love this guy. I missed the devotional on Sunday. Mainly because even though I go to BYU I am so oblivious to things that I didn't even know it was happening...
But I just got done watching it. I cannot believe how powerful his words are. They literally pierced my soul. I don't know how anyone could watch this without getting goose bumps or even getting a little choked up. His testimony at the end is powerful and strong. He knows. Elder Holland is called of God. I know this for a fact, without even a slight bit of doubt in my mind. He loves this church, and the people of this church. He shows it. He loves the Savior and you can tell plain as day that he has a personal, one on one relationship with him. I hope to someday have a relationship with my Savior like our prophets and apostles do today. They know and love him. Their faith is shown in their works and in their faces. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only true and living church here on the earth today. I know that. I know of a surety. I know it more than I have ever known anything in my whole life. I don't know how someone could even look at these apostles and prophets and not know that they are men of God, and that this wonderful church is true. I pray that those who are searching for the light can find it in our church.
I will NEVER leave my religion at the door. Ever.

The Start of Family History! (my timeline)

Lets be real. Right now, I'm supposed to be studying. But that is literally ALL I did yesterday. I actually think microbiology and art history are interesting and all... (... sure) but I just need to focus! Ah!
Ok, here is what I had to do for my Family History and Temple Work class. I moaned about it at first because I have a horrible memory. But once I got going, I actually enjoyed it!
So here is the start of my family history! And well... my history ;)

My Time Line :)

1993- April 19th: Born at American Fork Hospital in American Fork Utah.

1993 July- First trip of many to Flaming Gorge Utah.

1993 November- First College Football game (Rose bowl in California) (yes we are football and camping fans)

1994- April 19th: First Birthday with family and friends. I don’t remember this, but I have seen pictures.

1994 September 19th- Became a big sister. My sister Ashley was born exactly 17 months after me. We haven’t been separated yet. My mom swears we were meant to be twins. She even gave birth to us at around the same time and in the same room in the hospital. We often get mistaken for twins.

1996- June 20th- became a big sister again! My sister Karly was born. I was still too little to remember her birth. But my mom did say I fed her cheese when she was just tiny.

1997- December 31st- became a big sister of AGAIN! My sister Katelyn was born. I actually remember my mom coming home with her (I was just 4) and I was learning how to write.

1998 Summer- I learned how to ride a bike (I then tried to teach my little sisters how to do the same)

1998 August- My first day of Kindergarten

1999 Fall- I lost my first tooth. I remember crying to my first grade teacher because I had lost it. Then we looked through the trashes but we never could find it. She then told me I could write a note to the tooth fairy and I would still get money.

1999 Spring- I got my ears pierced. Ashley got them pierced at the same time as me. My favorite color was red so I got red studs and she got pink.

1999 Summer- Started Piano lessons when I was 6 years old. It didn’t last long.

2000 Spring- My very first Soccer game. We were the pink panthers. I still have a trophy to this day from that season.

2001 May- I was baptized. After words my whole extended family came to my house to eat Mexican food in my back yard.

2001 September 11th- The world trade towers were hit. All I remember is being at my friends’ house, (I was being babysat) and my friends’ mom just being in a panic. The next day at school all we did was talk about it. I was only 8, so I don’t remember a whole lot, I didn’t think it was as big of a deal as it really was.

2001 October- My first trip to Disney Land. The park was almost deserted. It was right after 9/11. We took our motor home through Nevada and had a really fun trip. Especially because the park was not crowded.

2002 August- Moved to Saratoga Springs UT

2002 November- My very first basketball game. I was not very good, but my dad always practiced with me and I loved it. Here began my love affair with basketball.

2002 Winter- First Time I babysat. I was only 9, and Ashley was 8. But since we were together we made 17. It was just for our neighbors across the street. This started us babysitting kids all over the neighborhood. Even to this day.

2003 Winter- I got my tonsils out in 4th grade. I was out of school for a week and I remember being mad because the girl in the room next to me got to go home before me. Only because I threw up right before I was supposed to go so I had to stay longer.

2003 Winter- I failed my spelling class in 4th grade. I remember the SEOP vividly with my parents and my teacher Ms. Wacob. I was a troublemaker in 4th grade.

2003 June- Made my first batch of  MANY cookies. I actually made the pudding instead of just putting the dry mix in. The cookies were flat and gooey. But they were still so good!

2004 May- My Grandpa Calder died. One of my first experiences with a death of a loved one that I can remember.

2004 Fall- I had what I call my first “real” crush. Only because it’s the only one I remember well enough. The boys’ name was Kyle. He sat next to me in 5th grade and gave me jerky. That to me meant he liked me. Therefore, he was my first crush.

2005 January 1st- My life took a dramatic turn when my father had a grand mall seizure on New Year’s day at 3:00am. I was woken up my mom telling me to go open the door for the parametics. I climbed into Ashley’s bed because I was scared. I watched in horror and confusion as they wheeled my best friend out on a stretcher.

2005 January 1st- I learned that my dad had a brain tumor that we probably wouldn’t have caught if we hadn’t have been playing video games and most likely would have killed him sooner than it did.

2005 Spring- Made it to the state science fair with my science experiment in 6th grade on the color and waviness of your hair and it’s effect on strength. This was also the first time I felt at home at BYU and knew I wanted to go there.

2005 Summer- My first ever girls camp. I remember we came straight from our annual family vacation from Flaming Gorge. My parents dropped me off, even though all the other girls had been there most of the day. This was the start of one of my favorite places on earth to be at- Girls Camp.

2005 August- Started Junior High. Very terrifying, but basketball got me out of my shell a little more.

2005 Fall- My first of many church callings as Beehive Second counselor (I went on to be the Beehive president, the Mia Maid 1st Counselor, and the Laurels 2nd and 1st counselor).

2005 October- First 5K spook run at Willowcreek Middle school. I just did this with the basketball team. It was surprisingly easy for me as a 7th grader.

2005 November- Made the Freshman Basketball team as a 7th grader

2006 January- First sex ed class (this was a huge milestone) I had 2 people from my ward in this class. One of them (M’kenna Thornly) is still my good friend. And the other (Austin Miller) became my first kiss and boyfriend and is now my good friend.

2007 March- Joined Track in 8th Grade- mainly to stay in shape for basketball. I did the long jump, the high jump, the 400, the 400 relay, and the 100.

2007 November- First official Freshman Basketball game. I didn’t actually get to play when I was on the team in 7th and 8th grade because you are only aloud to play so many years of high school basketball, so this was a moment I’d been waiting for forever. To add to the excitement I actually got to start the game.

2007 Winter- My first 3 pointer made in a game which eventually got me my nick name “shooter” and I then switched positions to a shooting guard, or position 3, instead of a forward.

2008 January- Not a highlight of my life- I got braces

2008 April- I got my driving permit/ drove for the first time

2008 June 10th- my Dad passed away from brain cancer. He’d survived it for 3 ½ years.

2008 June- My first EFY. It was actually the week after my dad had passed away. It was hard to be there and not with my family, but it strengthened my testimony in a way that I needed at that time.

2008 Summer- I got my first job in the summer at PowerTri.

2008 August- Started High School at Lehi High. I was not thrilled about going to Lehi. Luckily I got to got to Westlake for my last couple years of high school.

2008 December- I got my first phone for Christmas! It was a blackberry pearl that was silver.

2009 February- I got in my first car accident. I backed into my boyfriend Austin’s car putting a dent in the back of my car causing his light to break and he also got a dent. I cried for a long time.

2009 April- I turned 16 and got my license the next day!

2009 May- A huge highlight and confidence booster- I got my braces off

2009 June- I had my first date with Andrew Leonard. We doubled with his sister and her friend. We really liked each other at that time and even said we had a “song.” Nothing came of it but a good friendship.

2009 Summer - I got my first very own camera and took my first of billions of pictures (I became an amateur photographer)

2009 August- I started my first year as a Junior at Westlake High School.

2009 August- My first high school football game (I did not go to any football games at Lehi, and I never missed one at Westlake)

2009 September- Made the JV Soccer team at Westlake High School

2009 September- First High School date dance. Homecoming with Zach Wilson. I was the worst date ever because I had a huge crush on Austin and he was in our group, but with another girl.

2009 September- Made Westlake’s first ever goal in soccer (I had no idea what I was doing. I was not good at soccer. I had a lot of the girls a little upset because they wanted the first goal)

2009 October- I got to drive my friends in the car for the first time. They all had a half birthday party for me and we went (I drove them) to smoothie king.

2009 November- The first time I went paintballing with my friends (painful)

2009 November- I had my first kiss with Austin Miller in the parking lot after Katelyn’s basketball game. The next day we decided that we were officially dating at a young men young women’s activity when we split a brownie. The funny thing about that is that from when I first moved into the ward and saw Austin I always pictured myself dating or even marrying him. I never thought it would actually happen.

2009 Winter- My first time dressing as a man (that I can remember) dancing to the Jonas Brothers. I dressed as Joe Jonas.

2010 January- My first official injury of my life, a concussion I got while sledding on New Years Eve. I couldn’t play basketball for 2 weeks.

2010 Winter- I put on my first mustache with my cousin Katie and Ashley. We had one of the craziest night ever, with blow up dinosaurs, mustaches, silly string, basketball, movies, and stalkers.

2010 March- My Junior Prom. One of the best nights of my life! I went with Austin Miller. We had a super fun romantic night.

2010 April- I figured out what I wanted to major in- Athletic Training.

2010 May- I joined Alyssa’s Bridal’s Fashion Team. I actually didn’t apply. But my friend Rachel had been on it before and knew I wanted to do it. I had just missed the deadline. So she hooked me up because the Miss. Westlake had dropped out. I didn’t even have to apply or anything.

2010 July- I went on a pioneer trek. This was one of the most fun, uplifting, spiritual and testimony building things I have ever done.

2010 July- I was made/set apart a member of seminary counsel

2010 September- I was in the homecoming royalty with Austin.

2010 November- I applied for BYU

2010 December- I got my third job at Burger King

2011 January- The neapolitan group was started (me and my 2 best friends)
2011 February- I got accepted to BYU- one of the proudest moments of my life. I couldn’t believe it when I read it. I did not have the best ACT score or the greatest GPA. I know I was meant to be there and that it was a miracle that I even got it.

2011 March- I did the Miss. Saratoga Springs Pageant I got 1st attendant. This was something I just did for fun because I had a prom dress from doing the Alyssa’s bridal modeling, but I ended up loving it. Most people were surprised that I did it because I had never been into that kind of stuff, but I had a blast.

2011 April- I actually became Miss. Saratoga Springs. I got a call on my 18th birthday telling me that I was going to move up to Miss. Saratoga Springs because the old one had become engaged. What a great birthday present.

2011 May- I got my fourth job as a janitor at Willowcreek middle school with Kailey.

Crazy fun weekend!

This last weekend I had a blast with my family!
On Thursday night I came home. Ya know- no class on Friday.

Friday...
I did homework all day and then we went to Olive Garden together and then watched Friends all night.

Saturday...
FOOTBALL GAME!
BYU vs. Weber

We left the game little early. Not only because it was super hot (my nose got fried) but also because we needed to stop at the store to get one more thing to add to my friends wedding gift.
After the store we headed to Syracuse for my friend Mikayla's wedding. We used to be really good friends with their family, but we haven't seen them in forever. So this wedding was super important to us to go to.
It was one of thee cutest weddings I have probably ever seen! She looked beautiful in her dress, and they had fun things like pictures, candy, and videos.
They are super cute together too!

Right after the wedding we rushed to a Billy Joel/Utah Symphony concert. My mom had to drag us there. We begged her not to go, but we ended up just giving in. It was actually pretty cool and I was super entertained by the whole thing.

We got home late but we had such a fun time, even though it was a super packed day.

I didn't go back to my apartment on Saturday because we just got back so late.
Bonus for me because then I got to teach my Primary class with Austin! :)

Labor Day!

This weekend was perfect for me! After having a pretty stressful first week of school I really enjoyed having a long break. Especially because I don't have any classes on Friday so I just came home on Thursday night after the amazing football game (ya, I loved it).
The only thing now is that I have to get back into the routine of school and I don't get another break until Thanksgiving... which is probably a good thing.
I went to the game with Ashley, my mom, Katelyn, Austin, and Kenzie (Ash's friend). We had a blast! I'm mad I didn't take a picture (see my last post) but that's ok! I guess I can remember it from writing it down :)
So Friday I just chilled and went to work. Saturday I worked all day and then hungout with Jackie and Austin. Sunday I went to my cousin Riley's ordination. Monday...
We hiked the G early in the morning. We do it every year. This year I learned that my mom and dad actually started the tradition. Then we had yummy breakfast afterwords and wrote letters to my cousin Forrest on his mission. After that we went to my work while I talked to my boss and my family did a little shopping. We also got to see my Uncle Dale which was super fun.

Then we went home, showered, relaxed for a bit and headed off to the zoo! We actually got memberships, mainly because the line was a TON shorter (you know labor day and the crazy families with a million kids) and it cost about the same amount of money. We were only there for probably an hour. It was just so busy and hot we could barely handle it. Plus, we had a membership, so we didn't need to be there all day. Word of advice- go to the zoo when it's raining. NO ONE is there! We went for Sadie's my senior year and we were literally the only ones in the park and we just loved it! Then we all headed home and took a nap and watched some tv... It was a super fun day! I love my family so much and was actually in tears as I drove home because I missed them so much.
Another side note- Heavenly Father does hear our prayers. As I was driving home I was praying to my Heavenly Father for comfort. I got that comfort and felt the spirit so strong. I talked to him the whole way home, out loud, and couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. He is my best friend and he was listening to me. I felt as if he was sitting right there next to me listening to every word I had to say. And, well... He was there.  I could feel it. He gave me some advice and I took it! So far, it's been working miracles! I'm finally getting to know my roommates and I feel like we are friends. I feel comfortable and I feel like my life is getting organized! I just can't wait for every day, when before I would dread the days to come.
I. Love. My. Life.
