For my family history class I had to make some goals to try
and achieve by the end of the semester that has to do with getting our family
history started. My New Testament Professor told us that if we would just write
done one memory that we have every single Sunday that in a year we would have
40 plus memories that we might not have written down before and that’s a start
to your own family history. So- I have decided to do that. Especially because I
was not that great at keeping a journal throughout my life and I have some fun
memories that I know I’m going to forget sooner or later.
So here it goes- memory number one.
My senior year we had the craziest Sadie’s ever! We love
telling the story because everything that could have gone wrong, did. I was in
a group with me, Ashley, Kailey, Jackie, Christina, her friend Dana. I have to
tell you, this was one the thee most fun dates/dances that I have ever been
too. We were planning on painting black shirts with neon paint and all having a
sports number on the back and a name of one of the seven dwarfs. We thought we
were super clever because it was a costume dance and we wanted it to be cheep
and kind of have a theme. So we met at a park to do the shirts. We were already
running late because we picked up our dates and it took a little too long. It
was raining. Of course. Luckily there
was a cover so we went under there. We got pain everywhere. You can still see
it all there today. We were splattering paint on the shirts and throwing
paintbrushes. We hadn’t really thought of how we were going to get these shirts
to a place they could dry. So we piled in our cars, in the rain with wet
shirts. Everyone had to be super careful not to get the permanent paint on the
cars (let’s just say Kailey still has remnants of this day all over her car).
We got to my house finally and hung them in the garage to dry while we finished
our day date (bad idea you’ll learn later). It was getting super late and we
were debating on still going to the zoo or not. We decided to since that’s what
we had planned. We got lost on the way there. We went off the wrong exit,
almost hit a car twice, got off the wrong exit again, took the wrong turn off
the right exit finally and then got lost in a neighborhood…
We finally made it to the zoo! It was still raining so no
one was even there! That was actually pretty great. We still got to see all the
animals and not a single person was in sight. We had the whole place to
ourselves. Avery mad this really big gorilla mad and we all almost die (really
though, it was pretty terrifying. He like put his fits against his chest and
ran up and down his cage and then banged so hard on the glass! It was so
freaky. Another gorilla ate it’s own poop. That was entertaining. Let’s just
say we spend the bulk of our time with those guys. After we were done at the
zoo we headed home and it was already getting dark. But guess what? Kailey’s
car broke down. We still blame Andrew to this day because he was the one
driving. We had her car with 4 people and then Christina’s suburban with 8
people. Because we needed to get back and we couldn’t fix the car all 12 of us
pilled in the suburban! Oh. And we even pushed the car into a parking spot
because it wouldn’t start (this was all in SLC ps). So as we illegally drive
home we all are laughing and rocking out to music while there are like 3 people
in the trunk. Oh man. That was just hilarious and great. I think we did pray
before we left to keep us safe though. Oh! Another cool thing. The car ended up
breaking down right in front of east high. We sang high school musical songs
while the men were looking at the car. In the rain.
We finally made it home. We were planning on roasting hot
dogs and stuff in my back yard. We still did even though it was pitch black. My
awesome mom made the fire for us so we wouldn’t have to. She is a genius
because it had been raining all day. I dunno how she got it started. We had a really fun time around the fire
laughing and eating food.
Because we put our shirts in the cold damp garage they
didn’t dry. They were still completely wet! So we put on our funny hats and went
to the dance! The dance wasn’t super fun, but we mad the best of it! I can’t
remember what exactly happened after that, but we sure had a good time and are
still talking about it today! So apparently it was memorable.
